Evolution Media, a part of the OneVue investor services group, has won a Gold Stevie Award at the International Business Awards for its ‘Secrets of the Money Masters’ educational series of television programs. The Stevies, which have been going for 17 years, take place around the world to recognise excellence in business and communications across various categories. Evolution mixed sports stars with investment professionals in the educational series.

OneVue bought NMP Education, with its TV series schedule, from founder Vanessa Stoykov in 2018, and was itself taken over by Iress, a financial information and systems company, in June this year. Stoykov retained Evolution Media and her production facilities in North Sydney and contracts her services to OneVue.

Evolution’s gold was for the ‘Branded Entertainment – Consumer Content’ part of the international section of the awards, announced on September 10. About 250 executives judged the awards, which attracted 3,800 entrants from 63 countries and territories. The investment series broadcast on Channel 9 in Australia and various online platforms. It was praised for its use of entertainment to guide viewers through a “journey of money transformation”.

From the industry, collaborating on the project were: Orbis Investments, UBS Asset Management, Platinum Asset Management, Nikko Asset Management and AIA Australia. Financial planners Brad Fensom, Deborah Kent, Rod Dickinson, Paul Giordano and Mario Bordella were each assigned a celebrity athlete to guide and help create a long-term financial plan. The sports stars included Michael Klim, an Olympic gold medalist in swimming; Bernard Foley of the Wallabies; Jude Bolton from the AFL; Kyah Symon from the Matildas; and, Madison De Rosarie, Paralympian gold medalist.

“This video series keeps the viewer engaged, entertained and informed simultaneously. Storytelling that delivers financial advice through the real lives of professional athletes…  very good production values using a variety of historical footage and imagery, interview techniques, and sets. I find this series to be at the higher-end of branded entertainment programming,” said one of the award judges.

Stoykov said the award was strong evidence supporting her firm’s style of storytelling. “Combining entertainment and education is successful on a global scale,” she said. “The effects of the pandemic are going to be felt by people around the world for many years. We are working to help engage others with programs like this to take steps toward improving their financial situation.”
