9.35am. Game changer! What the payments revolution means for big super funds, wealth managers, their platform providers and the banks. Trevor Dixon, former BPAY general counsel and current working group member of the Australian Digital Business Council, leads a panel on: Australian payments system developments, global developments and disruptions including standards and interoperability, and, Blockchain technology. Panelists: Saxon Bartrop, Distributed Ledger Technology Lead, KPMG; Richard Miller, Director Payments Advisory, Deloitte; and Leigh Mahoney, Head of Payments Portfolio, ANZ.

10.30am – Trends in Digitalisation. Simon Sywak, head of macro products, J.P. Morgan Markets for Asia and EMEA is responsible for eCommerce strategy and development in the region. Simon will discuss managed platform solutions in Asia and beyond, the benefits and pitfalls of this solution and its role within the digital transformation of financial services companies. Panelists: Kelly Power, head of platforms, BT Financial Group; Matt O’Keefe partner, KPMG; and Alastair Pow, relationship manager, J.P. Morgan.

11.20am. How Securities Servicing is Adapting to the New Investment Environment. Paul Khoury, head of State Street Global Services, Australia and New Zealand, and a panel of senior executives from Australia’s largest super funds look at: retailisation, product proliferation, SMSF growth, regulatory pressure, data innovation and risk analysis. Panelists: Jonathan Green, TCorp; Peter Curtis, AustralianSuper; Graeme Arnott, First State Super; and Lounarda David, Sunsuper.

1.30pm. The Importance of Diversity. Connie Mckeage, managing director of OneVue, chairs a panel discussing the trends in governance for listed companies, big super funds and fund managers. Panelists include: managing director of Financial Recruitment Group and founder of Financial Executive Women, Judith Beck; management consultant and former eBay Australia launch marketer Greta Thomas; and IO&C director Greg Bright.

Basel III Revisited Through Technological Change. Matthew Byrne, solutions management – superannuation & funds at ANZ, and Leigh Mahoney, head of payments portfolio at ANZ, looks at the ongoing repercussions and opportunities following Basel III – and upcoming Basel IV – including compliance for platforms and funds with the ability to pay retail deposit rates for cash held in wholesale vehicles.

3.20pm. Disruption in Administration. Mike Chisholm, managing director of new wealth management company Crestone, provides a case study in platform systems selection and implementation. Patrick Liddy of MSI Group chairs the discussion, which includes Peter Schopfer, group CMO, Avaloq; Mike Giles of Ignition Wealth, Matt Crooks of Recreo and Aron Ping D’Souza of Good Super.

Peter Dorrian, principal of Financial Consulting, leads a panel which attempts to cut through the common hyperbole and motherhood statements about this demographic challenge. Panelists: Donald Hellyer, co-founder and director, BigFuture; Ashley Porter, managing director and founder, Mclowd; and, Wade Matterson, practice leader and principal, Milliman.

Patrick Liddy, of fund operations consultancy MSI Group, presents a panel discussing the ins and outs of the growing field attracting custodian, super fund and manager interest. Opt-out versus opt-in jurisdictions and the future for Australian fiduciaries. With Caroline Goodman, founder of Institutional Protection Services, Ruth Stackpool-Moore, director, Harbour Litigation Funding and Joanne Rees, CEO, Alley Group.

10.30am. Hot Off the Virtual Presses – the latest in fintech. Ian Dunbar, country manager, SuiteBox Solutions, and founder and director of Afiniation, The Finance Technology Network, leads discussion about:

  • Does the closed ledger and APL of the traditional platform have a future, or do open access platforms such as Sharesight and Class Portfolio represent the future of the Investment Platform?

Implementation efficiency:  shining the spotlight on two areas where good investment ideas can be undone.  Katharine Seymour, head of market development, BNP Paribas Securities Services, leads a panel with: Raewyn Williams, Director, research & after-tax solutions, Parametric, who presents new research on how much tax and trading inefficiency can undo a good investment approach and what funds and product sponsors can do to restore the value lost to investment portfolios from implementation inefficiency; with Alexander Morris, head of managed accounts development, banking and financial services, Macquarie Group, and Trish Nicklin, senior relationship manager, ASX Ltd.
