James McKinlay has left JANA Investment Advisers to become one of four Sydney-based investment directors at Wellington International Management Co. He will be involved in fixed interest product management.
Wellington’s other three investment directors are Aisling Freiheit, who has dual asset allocation and fixed interest specialties, James Crawford, for equities, and Lori Whiting, another fixed interest specialist, who is expected to return to Boston.
McKinlay was head of fixed interest and a senior consultant at JANA. He was at the firm for a little over seven years.
He said last week that, in his new role, he would be working closely with investors to ensure the integrity of their respective investment approaches.
“This includes meeting with the team on a regular basis and providing oversight of portfolio positioning, performance, and risk exposures, as well as developing new products and client solutions and managing business issues such as capacity, fees, and guidelines,” he said.
An economist by training, McKinlay has worked at National Australia Bank and the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet in the previous government.
